Thais once again are going through very difficult times. People displaced, jobless and over 530 deaths as I post this. The overall situation shows little improvement with some of of the water receding but there is still large areas of the country, mainly north and around of Bangkok totally inundated.

I went to this fantastic place in Ang Thong province months ago. The size of the Buddha statue is quite impressive, probably the biggest I have seen so far. As in many other similar religious sites in Thailand, many statues representing the Thai-Buddhist interpretation of Heaven and Hell can be found there.

This is a great place to go and to spend most of the day. The shows are held at weekends from 11am to 5pm. Located on a rice paddy field the performers seem to walk on water. Plenty of Thai food and some handicraft too.

The Temple of the Emerald Buddha also known as Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram is regarded as the most sacred temple in Thailand. In the same complex is located the Grand Palace Chakri Mahaprasad in its Imperial Victorian style but with a magnificent Thai roof.

There are a few floating markets in Bangkok. They are not as impressive as the famous Damnoen Saduak or even Amphawa floating market but you can go on a very nice boat trip along the nearby canals.

Also known as "Temple of the Golden Dragon", this is one of the most extravagant temples so far I have found. The staircase leads us to the inside of the belly of the dragon, a cave decorated with statues of Buddha and other religious stuff.

I can't find any info on this temple but I was told this is kind of a Burmese temple even the monks' robes look different in colour from the ones used by Thai buddhist monks.

If I am not mistaken, Wat Tham Suea translates as The Tiger Cave Temple.

Well, I was lucky enough to take some holidays in these gorgeous islands and their palm-fringed beaches, beautiful limestone mountains and crystaline waters. The picture below shows the beautiful Maya Beach where the 2000 movie "The Beach" starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Virginie Ledoyen and Guilaume Canet was filmed.

Well, they are not all over the city but they took over the Phra Prang Sam Yot temple ruins and its surroundings. Sometimes they can be quite agressive and also they most certainly carry diseases. No doubt, they are a major touristic attraction.

I am no expert in any kind of vehicles nor interested in collecting vehicles. Well, I don't even have the kind of money to start collecting them :) I am just lucky enough to have one for my own transportation. Anyway, I was absolutely fascinated and well surprised when I saw this extensive collection of old and not so old vehicles.

This very traditional floating market is located 82 kms from Bangkok. This is not a weekend market, it follows the lunar calendar according to the Buddhist religion. Much smaller than the famous Damnoen Saduak floating but the real thing!

This market has been right there for decades, then the train came to town and the railway was built right through the food market. The vendors have never left their market, instead they adapted to the new situation and... improvised.
